To set up the spindle sander slide the appropriate washer over the spindle and then the sleeve. It makes the tool so much more user friendly when you have all the pieces within easy access. I love when tool companies think of things like onboard storage.
Then conveniently place the belt mechanism in the rear storage compartment while not in use. To switch out the belt mechanism simply unscrew the top knob and lift the mechanism up off the spindle post.

Hello paul – I just recently purchased this osc sander (EB44242) days ago & while surfing the internet I discovered something pretty troubling reguarding replacement parts for it. How can Ridgid sell a product and not provide the accessories that go with it? Very disappointing. I am very upset that I now find that the mitre Square is no longer available. I am really impressed with my spindle sander especially the dust collection it is just the job for what I need. Remember, it will take some time to get there, but with a little patience and dedication, you can become the skilled woodworker that you have always dreamed of. It offers plenty of muscle for the hobbyist or small professional shop, and the innovative design makes this tool a bargain at $329. This tool is ideal for removing marks left behind by power-cutting means, mainly the band saw, or jig saw. While I mainly use it as an edge belt sander, it is a snap to changeover for spindle sanding operations and works equally well in that mode. I am not a fan of multi-purpose tools, but I have been delighted with this tool. Ridgid must have a team of highly effective intellectual property attorneys, or every tool manufacturer in the industry would copy this tool. But if I frequently changed from belt sanding to spindle sanding or performed spindle sanding extensively, I would be apprehensive about this component. Since I use this tool almost exclusively as an edge belt sander, the insert rarely gets used in my shop, so it should not be an issue.

The concept is simple, and the insert does the job, but it is made of lightweight plastic, and I am concerned that this highly exposed item will wear or crack over time. Part of the process of changing from belt sanding to spindle sanding requires installing an insert to cover the opening left when the sanding belt assembly is removed and replaced with the smaller spindle sanding drum.
